Gov. Marcos Manotoc hails COVID-19 frontliners on Independence Day

Jun. 15, 2020 ...

Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc recognized the "painstaking efforts and immense sacrifice" of COVID-19 frontliners during the Provincial Government's 122nd Philippine Independence Day Celebration in Laoag City, last June 12.

He expounded, "Confronted by the COVID-19 pandemic we at the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte had been cautious in trying to ensure the safety and welfare of our kakailian.

Our safety has been made possible by all our COVID-19 frontliners. I would like to recognize the painstaking efforts and immense sacrifice of our modern-day heroes: our men and women in uniform, health workers, our barangay officials, our LGUs led by our mayors, and all of our volunteers and everyone who has led the fight against COVID [-19]. Today you all are freedom fighters. You fight for our freedom."

Meanwhile, Gov. Marcos Manotoc emphasized that the threat of COVID-19 has not yet passed, citing the return of over a hundred residents from all over the world and the influx of people coming in the province for work purposes.

"We still need to take necessary precautions and we must act as if we have COVID-19 cases in Ilocos Norte," he urged.

He also asked for everyone's continued cooperation by observing social distancing and wearing a mask; describing these as "necessary and the only safe way."

It is now on us to show in our deeds how we will uphold the freedom that our forefathers fought for," he ended.
